Mosasaur // Clidastes - 24" x 36"

The Museum of Geology in my hometown houses a haunting fossil: that of the ~20 foot-long mosasaur Clidastes, a marine lizard that swam in an inland sea some 85-80mya. That skeleton intimidated me as a kid, and continues to lurk in the open oceans of my nightmares - but I can’t help being in awe that this animal occupied the same parts of the country I occasionally found myself, just removed by massive geologic forces and a divide of tens of millions of years. Same planet!

This was commissioned as a gift for a fellow marine fossil lover.
