Ambush Bug (Subfamily: Phymatinae)

from $18.00

This is an ambush bug, a type of assassin bug in the subfamily Phymatinae. As their name suggests, these predatory insects lay motionless in wait for their prey. I found this insect on the same species of flower as the Camouflaged Looper I also painted – I thought it was impressive that, although these insects are in no way related, they each have been able to use camouflage to their advantage in different ways: one to eat, and the other to avoid being eaten.
